Californians’ quality of life is on a collision course with the rule of law. Escalating violent crime, lawlessness, open drug use, rampant homelessness, coupled with high inflation raising the costs of everything from food to gas to housing, is causing anxiety, fear, despair and disgust in the state’s residents.
The “spiral of lawlessness” in California started with “quality of life” offenses where criminals realized that they could commit them with impunity, with the passage of Proposition 47 in 2014.
Elderly women are robbed in broad daylight, murders are taking place daily in middle class neighborhoods, children are fatally shot by stray bullets while playing in their homes and yards, and shop owners and retail stores are being robbed blind. Crime is taking place everywhere in the state. Small medium and large business owners report unbelievable thefts – daily. Auto thefts are up. Homeowners report theft of everything not nailed down, and repeated break-ins of garages, sheds, and their homes.
In addition to the parent revolution, the diminishing quality of life in California is on the ballot next week.
A cursory glance at recent headlines exemplifies this:
San Francisco supervisor’s home broken into: ‘My heart dropped’
After fentanyl found in candy bags at LAX, officials warn parents to check Halloween candy
2 dead in Southern California shopping center stabbing
3 arrested after ‘horrific’ shooting near UC Berkeley campus
Man who riddled girlfriend with bullets, dumped body in California Aqueduct sentenced
Two dead following stabbing at shopping center in Palmdale
And if the explosive crime isn’t bad enough:
Elk Grove officials kill Zeus, the German shepherd who bit two, was confiscated from owner.
Democrats are flaunting the law in California and the good people are paying the price.
From the dramatically escalating crime, to the underlying threat of ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the rising cost of everything, and the poor quality of education, Californians are suffering.
Gov. Gavin Newsom is releasing prison inmates, with the total amounting to 76,000.
The Associated Press reported:
California is giving 76,000 inmates, including violent and repeat felons, the opportunity to leave prison earlier as the state aims to further trim the population of what once was the nation’s largest state correctional system.
More than 63,000 inmates convicted of violent crimes will be eligible for good behavior credits that shorten their sentences by one-third instead of the one-fifth that had been in place since 2017. That includes nearly 20,000 inmates who are serving life sentences with the possibility of parole.
Remember, in July 2020, the Globe reported on Gov. Newsom releasing 18,000 prisoners “due to COVID.”
This is California under Democrat rule: a governor who single-handedly changes law he doesn’t like while still refusing to relinquish his Covid emergency powers, District Attorneys’ offices purchased for them by a corrupt billionaire oligarch, who then refuse to enforce the laws they don’t like, and a feckless Legislature content with the perception of power, while facilitating the destabilization of the state.
Are the foundations of our democracy cracking? The Rule of Law is the basic idea that we have a government of laws, not a government by man or by arbitrary rule. In other words, no one is above the law. And it is going to take the people to demand the Rule of Law back.
The quality of life is on California’s November 8, 2022 Ballot. Vote, and offer to turn in all of your friends’ and family’s ballots. Change is in the voter’s hands.

Appreciate you, Katy Grimes! As always.
I know there must even be registered Democrats out there who now understand what one-party rule in California has done to their everyday lives and to their ability to go to work or to school or to play or even do simple errands without fear. They've lost their city streets and parks and beaches, their schools and other once-taken-for-granted institutions, and must know by now that only harmful and destructive policies --- either that or empty symbolic trivia --- come from the Democrat CA Gov and other state office holders, the mega-majority Dem legislature, and from the progressive city and county leaders.
We're in real trouble now in this state. The neglect of our serious problems and continuation of wrong-headed policies are only going to make that trouble worse and worse if we keep electing the same people. Take a chance and vote differently. Vote for Republicans this time and see what happens. See for yourself if life gets better as result. I think many Democrats will take that chance this time. I know that many must be fed up, too, with what is going on in the once-Golden State.
We no longer have the luxury of a Yay-For-Our-Team partisanship. We're way past that now. What's going on in this state is affecting all of us negatively, and in every aspect of our lives. Please consider voting Republican to bring balance and hope back to our beloved California. Just this once. :)
I hope I am wrong, but who watches the watchers? The CA democrats control the elections, they now have mass mail-in voting and legalized vote harvesting. Newsom was never in trouble during the recall, as the vote count was guaranteed to favor him.
You're right that there will be efforts to cheat; we'd be foolish to say there are not. The cheating has worsened over (at least) the last decade, has become blatant in recent years and, as you point out, some of it has been legalized! But it has its limits. We know from reports that Democrat participation is lethargic this year and we can reasonably speculate that the Dem cheating forces might also be apathetic. Good sensible people voting for change in large numbers in California can overcome the cheating. Reportedly two-and-a-half million Repubs sat out the Recall.
We MUST vote, and everyone, Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who are frustrated with our current state of affairs MUST vote for Republicans because the only way to change what has been going on is to vote out the Dem politicians who have trashed California. We cannot work with them and they will only continue to trash our state. It's almost as if they are programmed to do it and can't help themselves. So Vote Republican and tell everyone you know to vote Republican. It's the only way now.
A vote for Democrat in this election is a vote for mayhem and debauchery. We can ill afford either.
Change will do this state good!
Ask yourself are you better off now than four years ago?

I second your motion Show and Tell, thank you Katy and California Globe, 'paper of record for California!'
Social media occasionally circulates a reminder that the People who locked down your state, businesses, churches and schools are now asking for your vote... Never Forget what they have done. Never forget the lives destroyed by vaccine and mask mandates, the children deprived an education ($59 mil has been paid by teachers unions to Dem policies and programs, even as 57% of teachers are Republican), or the $31 billion EDD funds that have mysteriously disappeared.
Great reminders Marilyn!
'Quality of Life' and 'California' should never used in the same sentence.
No matter what happens in November, it will take years to rebuild America or weeks to bury it. Conservatives win and we face at least two decades of concerted effort to rebuild. Leftists win and the US will be utterly destroyed in a year or less.
Choose now! If we lose next week, we will never have another chance.
California's quality of life has been in decline for years ever since the Democrat cabal gained almost complete control of the state with the help of voter fraud, rigged voting machines, and RINOs who allowed them to get away with it?
It's simple:
The criminal's rights supersede victim's rights.
The rights of the mentally ill to refuse medication, because they don't want to suffer the side-effects supersede the rights of the public who suffer the side-effects of them NOT taking their meds.
The Governor's father, a judge, was on an appellate panel that recommended the kidnappers of the school bus in Chula Vista be eligible for parole. Gavin recently pardoned the last one. This was called the worst kidnapping in U.S. history. They actually buried the children and his driver alive, though they were later rescued. All the perpetrators were from wealthy San Francisco families. I wonder about the father and sons interest in these men, and how both worked to commute their sentences. A small group of people have ruled California for a long time.
